Standard, percentile and Fudge dice

Dice counts, sides, special values, and shorthand notation.

Numeric dice

NdX rolls N dice with X sides and sums their faces. Omitting N means one die. d defaults to twenty sides; 3d becomes 3d20. Sides must be integers from 0 through 2³², subject to configured limits. d0 is valid and always produces 0. 0d6 normalizes to the constant 0 without creating dice.

Computed count and sides

Use parentheses to compute a count or sides before rolling. The result must be a valid integer and the expression must be deterministic.

Percentile

d% has faces from 1 to 100 and is numerically equivalent to d100. 2d% rolls two independent percentile dice.

Generic Fudge dice

dF and dF.2 produce −1, 0, or +1 with equal probability. dF.1 uses six internal faces: one −1, four 0, and one +1. f expands to 4dF and 2f to 2dF. The Fate API also preserves physical faces and semantic symbols.
